'Education is the most powerful weapon which we can use to change the World"
Lifelong learning for all Australians is probably the most important investment this country can make in its people and our shared future. You’re never too old to develop new skills and increase your knowledge. Australians should be able to utilise the best possible education resources available at the cheapest possible personal cost. But why?
Education is the key to Australia's future prosperity.
On a practical front alone, 65% of today’s schoolchildren will eventually be employed in jobs that have yet to be created or defined. Flexibility and people-skills will be essential. That also means that many currently employed workers for the first time since the industrial revolution must be thinking about what they will do to make a living 10 to 20 years from now. Knowledge is the toolbox for your imagination and the solution is education.

So we have to shake up the system and demand better educational opportunities of every type and at every age-group. Teachers are outrageously treated in our society today. We need better pay, conditions and respect for their work so we then attract and keep the best educators. And we all need to take part to develop ourselves. Done right, education is at the core of all our principles - it reprioritises Arts & Culture, improves our communities and gives us the practical creative skills we need in business and in life.
Ultimately the entire way the national curriculum is structured and taught needs to be addressed. School education should prepare us for adult life, not just in being 'employable', but also to make us good citizens that understand ourselves and others far better.
Education done right will literally make a better world for us all. We've created policies to improve the current situation but appreciate a huge amount of work needs still to be done. Investing in education builds our capacity to compete in the knowledge economy of tomorrow and we will support all measures that improve the quality and accessibility of education for every Australian.
Education improves us as individuals, and in turn strengthens us as a people. It is the ultimate WIN-WIN.
Some of the ways education helps us:
- To be more tolerant of our differences
- To think smarter and more creatively about our problems
- It teaches us discipline in our thinking
- Helps us realise out potential
- Offers better employment opportunities
- Widens our circle of friends and our understanding of the world
- Allows us to learn from the mistakes of the past, in the hope of not repeating them
- Improves your time management and organisational skills
- Improves social skills generally
